The WPI Women’s Rowing team had another exciting day of racing.   Racing yesterday at the annual Quinsigamond Snake Regatta, we demonstrated impressive speed and notable depth in our roster.  The 1V completed the course in an impressive 15:04, besting second place Wellesley by over 30 seconds.  Our 2V completed the course in 16:11 and was the fastest 2V in the field and over 20 seconds faster than NEWMAC rival Wellesley.

Our 1V and 2V are undefeated this season in DIII competition!   We look forward to carrying this momentum to next week’s Head of the Charles.  Both boats will be racing in the Women’s Collegiate 8 at 2:41PM.  I hope you will make it out to the HOCR to support the team.  (They hope to make history!)

Don’t forget about our Homecoming Alumni Race taking place on 10/27.  We will dedicate our new Varsity 8 the Jen”Niffer” McLaughlin ’06, and recognize 2018 NCAA Championship athletes with the unveiling of a NCAA Championship banner.

A final note:  Congratulations to Kinsey McNamara ’19 who recently set the 6K ERG school record.  Her 22:47 bested Jess McAlear’s previous record of 22:51.9 set in 2003!

LARRY’S RECAP

From: Noble, Lawrence

After a tough week of exams and terrible weather that kept a lot of the crews from rowing, WPI had a strong day at The Snake Regatta. It rained throughout the morning but the wind stayed calm making for good rowing conditions.

The high lite of the day was the WPI Women’s varsity eight’s dominant victory.  The Engineers defeated NEWMAC rival Wellesley by over 30 seconds. Holy Cross was third and Colby fourth with the WPI B boat fifth (first among B boats) and the C boat 14th of 15.

On the men’s side the MV8 finished third behind Cross and Williams (3 seconds) but beating Trinity and Colby among others. The B boat was 11th and the C boat 16th of twenty crews.

The MV4 was 5th of 20, The MN4 third, and the WN4 also third. The WN8 finished 7th.

An alumni eight rowing in preparation for next week’s Charles won their event as did Tobin and Jim McGee in the double and Jackson Krupnick in the Open single. Full results can be found on QRA.org under the Snake Regatta link.

All of these alumni will be racing in next week’s HOCR. Both the men and women have two boats in The Collegiate Eight on Sunday. It is Fall Break so the focus should be on rowing this week and hopefully that will show in Cambridge!
