A strong start to the 2018-2019 Season.   The women’s team returns from the summer break poised to build on the momentum of its 2018 NCAA Championship finish.   Racing under brilliant blue skies and flat water at the Riverfront Regatta in Hartford, CT. the WV8 posted a 2nd place finish in the Women’s Open 8, a mere 1 second behind DI UConn.  Our finish time of 18:45 was 45 seconds faster than NEWMAC rival Smith, and 1 full minute ahead of NESCAC Wesleyan.   Our Open 4 featured the stern 4 of the V8 who posted a winning time over 1 minute faster than second place UConn and 90 seconds faster than third place Wesleyan.  Rounding out the medal-count was our Novice 8, taking gold in it’s debut race.

The Men’s Team had a strong day as well, posting a 3rd place finish in the Men’s Open 8, and also winning the Men’s Open 4!   Check out full results for the Riverfront Regatta.

Come support the team at our home race, The Lake Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday 10/13.   We will also be racing at the HOCR, with two entries in the Women’s Collegiate 8 on 10/21.

Lastly, I want to invite you to join us at our Alumni Race on 10/27.  This will take place on Homecoming weekend.  A special announcement: At this year’s Alumni race we will dedicate our new V8 shell, the Jen”Niffer” McLaughlin ’06.   This top-of-the-line Vespoli was purchased with support of the Jennifer McLaughlin endowment, an endowment established to honor Jen’s memory to support WPI Women’s Rowing in perpetuity.  For those who helped establish this important endowment, a sincere thank you and a hope you will return for the dedication to see the fruits of your support.  The addition of this boat to the fleet is an important part of maintaining our standing as a NCAA Championship program.   If you have interest in helping us grow the Jennifer McLaughlin Endowment, to deepen the support it can provide Women’s Rowing please email me.
