WPI won it’s third consecutive Class of 2003 Cup vs Wesleyan, UMass and Colby. Hamilton was a guest entry. WPI’s MV8 won in a time of 6:07, to Wes’ 6:08, UMass’s 6:12, Hamilton’s 6:15 and Colby’s 6:24. The conditions were variable with a cross tail in the first thousand turning into a a gusty head wind in the second thousand where the lake widens. The stake boats were not in so the start was hectic and Wes took the lead immediately. They led by half a length until 400 to go when the Tech boat took the rate up and sprinted through Wesleyan to win by 4 seats. Wes won the 2 and 3V races with WPI third (behind UMass) in the 2V and second in the 3V. WPI won the four race.
Class of 2003 graduates Ryan Wartman and Eric Girard presented the cup to the WPI varsity eight.
The women varsity eight was third in the Jennifer McLaughlin Cup behind Wes and guest entry Pacific Lutheran with Smith and Colby rounding out the field.
Bates, Conn and Hamilton in fours tomorrow at the varsity level while the 2, 3 and 4V will race in eights.
The women are racing Simmons, Bates, Hamilton,Pacific Lutheran, Mount Holyoke and Clark tomorrow.
